Film Friday: Hook & Ladder 8 (Ghostbusters)

November 2, 2012 by Amanda

Each Friday, I’ll be briefly profiling a specific location somewhere in the world that has been featured in a movie or TV show.

This week, the site is Hook & Ladder 8 in New York City.

This fire station in Manhattan’s TriBeCa neighborhood most famously doubled as the headquarters for the Ghostbusters in the 1984 movie of the same name.

Today, the firefighters of Hook & Ladder 8 are very proud of their fire house’s starring role — there’s a mural painted on the sidewalk next to the building, and the Ghostbusters sign that hung outside in the film now hangs inside.

And, on any given day, chances are high that you’ll see fans of the Bill Murray film posing outside — sometimes in full costume!

Want to find Hook & Ladder 8 for yourself? It’s located at 14 North Moore Street.

The first time we brought Jamey and Marc to NYC, they were in middle school. We did a lot of movie related things like running down the steps of the New York Public Library like one of the first scenes of Ghost Busters. At the Statue of Liberty we stood around the lawn reciting the bocce balls line from Splash. Of course our trip to FAO Swartz included our homage to Big so we danced on the keyboard. I know I passed my love of NYC and Cedar Point on to my boys. They both worked at Cedar Point and they both lived in NYC.
